Pastor Phelps passed away recently, and the media has spent a lot of effort villainizing him.
Its important for Christians of all persuasions to return directly to the man's original speeches to fairly and impartially assess his good and bad aspects,
and not simply buy into the hysterical and anger-filled claims and caricatures presented by his enemies and detractors.
The following sermon on Sodom and Gommorah is probably a good example and fair sample of Pastor Phelps' worldview and doctrinal beliefs.
