Phylogenetic Trees again

The first real "Knight in Shining Armor" to come and rescue the 'Princess Evolution"
was the new 'science of tree making', comprised of three different but
competing, (and inevitably contradictory) fields:

"There are three currently active schools of taxonomy:

(1) phenetic taxonomy,

(2) cladistics

(3) evolutionary systematics."
(cf. Conceptual Issues in Evolutionary Biology, - Sokol, pg 239 f)

When these three stooges failed to rescue the princess,
along came the exciting new field of genetics.
